The major technical challenges would be to develop scalable and effective methods for cyber-physical network construction and analysis. We will use several real-life and simulated cyber-physical networks in our proposed study, including real moving object data about animals/birds, simulate/real human moving data (cell-phone, car GPS data), and simulated air-traffic control data.
The goal is to develop a research program in the area of Cyber Analytics. This will allow us to join expertise in the text and information extraction area (Roth) with expertise in data mining (Han). It will also build on existing efforts and collaborations that exist between UIUC and Boeing in the area of Entity Recognition and Tracking, Information Extraction, and Moving Object Data Mining. Our goal would be to analyze two kinds of data (i) forums data, both from the textual perspective and from the social networks perspective, and (ii) cyber-physical network data where physical objects are moving objects that are linked together to form sensor networks and are associated with informational data (such as object properties and characteristics stored in some data repositories).
